However, this study was conducted 5 years ago. The more effort you put into recording a piece of information, the better you retain it. What they discovered in this experiment is called the effort principle. Both times the students who took notes by hand scored twice as well as the students who typed out their notes. The second time, they gave surprise test to each group a week after they took notes. One time, they tested each group immediately after class so they had no time to study.
